The Saline County Career Technical Education (CTE) Campus was created as a joint effort between Saline County, the Saline County Economic Development Corporation, Benton School District, Bryant School District, Bauxite School District, Glen Rose School District, Harmony Grove School District, Sheridan School District, and College of the Ouachitas.

The project was built by Saline County, operated by ASU Three Rivers, and inhabited by students of the six school districts. High school students now have the option of choosing curriculum to train for technical careers in HVAC, automotive technology, industrial equipment maintenance, welding, health sciences, information technology, cyber security, anatomy and physiology, advanced manufacturing, and construction. Upon graduation, students possess certifications and can enter directly into the workforce.

Pettus Office worked with Black Corley Owens + Hughes Architects and Affinity Design, LLC to create a campus where flexibility is the key. All classrooms are outfitted with flip/nest tables and a rolling teacher’s podium, allowing infinite configurations. These spaces follow the Room on the Move space architype identified by Kimball International to promote learning.

The majority of Alterna modular caseworks were also specially designed to accommodate the designer’s selection of surface materials, creating an aesthetic unique to the school. The common areas include numerous seating environments with bold colors and patterns that tie into the interior design of the building.

The furniture was competitively bid, as this was a publicly funded project. However, requirements were stringent, and the team wanted to receive great furniture with a reliable warranty for a reasonable price. These goals were achieved with Kimball International.

“The teachers and administrators at the CTE Campus seem genuinely happy with the furniture systems,” said Leslie Black with Affinity Design, LLC. “The products were installed by a conscientious team, the quality is very high, and the aesthetics are far above the products found in your average high school. When my client is happy, I’m happy.”
