Kimball employees routinely give volunteer man hours, participating in publicity events, fundraisers and auctions. The Company encourages employees to become involved in civic and charitable projects.
Kimball takes a decentralized approach to its community projects, allowing the employees and management teams of each operating unit location to decide which events or causes provide the greatest benefit to their local community. However, philosophically the Company encourages support for those programs which improve the human condition, such as health, social services and education.
Kimball recognizes the importance of employee volunteer activity and encourages active participation. Employees are able to utilize the Company's flexible scheduling of personal vacation to allow time for volunteerism. In addition, managers have discretion to allow certain fundraising or donation collection activities to occur in the workplace.
Through the Company's internal newsletters and online intranet news, employee philanthropy and volunteer activity is recognized, successes shared and future actions encouraged.
Kimball Responds – Providing Assistance
When a massive F-4 tornado struck southern Indiana in early March 2012, communities were devastated. Two employees of Kimball Office –Salem lost their homes and others suffered substantial damage. Within hours, Kimball Logistics quickly responded with a truck and trailer to storehouse the cleanup supplies, water and canned goods donated to assist the tornado victims of the entire community. The truck was parked on top of a hill to make it easier for people to get to it for food and relief supplies. Kimball headquarters employees organized an effort to donate cash for the relief efforts or to the American Red Cross. These efforts are great examples of teammates coming to the aid of their colleagues.
Kimball Has Soul – Lots of Them
Kimball International employees from 22 separate locations across three continents united around a common cause in 2011, as employees world-wide graciously donated new or gently used shoes and cash donations to the Soles4Souls Shoe Drive. The organization provides shoes to needy children and adults around the globe. In total, Kimball’s global operations collected 3,132 pairs of shoes and over $6,010 dollars in cash donations, which enabled Soles4Souls to use their buying power to equate each dollar with a new pair of shoes. Kimball employees continue supporting the shoe charity with collection drives and solicitation of monetary donations.
