HUM Wins Green Star Interior Design magazine distinguished the Hum® Minds At Work product from Kimball Office with a "Green Star" award for environmental excellence.

Kimball Office uses an EPA-based “Design for the Environment” (DfE) approach, beginning with the product conceptualization, where all component and process attributes are assessed to minimize environmental aspects. In anticipation of when a product reaches the end of its useful life, National provides Disassembly Instructions to help determine the material composition and assist with recycling efforts.

Living this philosophy of environmental stewardship, Kimball Office and National Office Furniture have earned level^® 2 or level^® 3 certification for many of their products.

Level^® Certification verifies conformance to the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers' Association (BIFMA) e3 sustainability standard through a recognized third-party certifier. For KO and NOF, the certifying party is Scientific Certification Systems (SCS).

The e3 standard ensures a comprehensive and impartial assessment of a product's environmental and social impact. It also gives customers an easy way to understand how products contribute to their sustainability goals. The new standard applies to all business and institutional furniture, including movable walls, systems furniture, desk systems, casegoods, tables, seating and accessories, and materials and components manufactured by suppliers to furniture manufacturers.

Kimball Office and National Office Furniture have approximately 200 products that have achieved certification to the Indoor Advantage™ program from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) by meeting the BIFMA Furniture Emissions Standards (FES) for office furniture.

In addition to achieving certification, Kimball Office and National Office Furniture both played a leading role within the diverse group involved in developing e3 with BIFMA.
